Definition - What does Keyword mean?

When referring to SEO, A keyword is a particular word or phrase that describes the contents of a Web page. Keywords are intended to act as shortcuts that sum up an entire page. Keywords form part of a Web page’s metadata (Learn about meta data) and help search engines match a page to with an appropriate search query.

Meta data is just one element of website optimization but you need to start here. Your website was delivered optimized, now you need to keep it that way. Make sure you understand what meta descriptions are, and why they are important, then make sure you write them for every new page you build on your website.

Meta Descriptions

Meta Titles are extremely important in gaining user click-through from search engines. Try to include keywords, and create a compelling description that a searcher will want to click. 

Make sure it has direct relevance to the page and every page has a different description.  The description should optimally be between 150-160 characters.

Writing a readable, compelling description using important keywords can improve the click-through rate for a given webpage. Google and other search engines bold keywords in the description when they match search queries.

Keep it accurate and concise description of a page's content. It's important to keep it to 55 characters or less to ensure  you display properly across different screens.

Not all websites can have high rankings

There are billions of web pages on the Internet. It's obvious that not all of them can be listed on the first results page on Google. Why do you have to optimize your web pages?If you do not optimize your web pages, then they won't get high rankings on Google and other search engines.

Your website should appear on the first results page

Computers communicate by using numbers, called IP addresses, to contact each other, much like you use a phone number to dial a specific person's phone. Domain names on the internet are much like entries in a phone book. The phone book tells people looking for a business what the entries are just as a domain tells people (i.e. their computers) that a domain is hosted on the server.
